Virginia State Tax Amnesty Expiring on 11/14

The Virginia state tax amnesty expires on 9/14.

If you owe state taxes for prior years you can pay your back taxes, and file your late returns, by 11/14 and ALL PENALTIES AND 50% of the interest will be waived.

This amnesty was passed at the urging of the Virginia Society of CPA's. We conducted a lobbying campaign in Richmond earlier this year. I was fortunate to participate. It was my first experience of this kind and I look forward to doing it again this January.

The bill benefits the delinquent taxpayer by helping them catch up while also saving money. But it also helps bring more revenue to the state because the money collected may not have been paid for years, if ever.
